CONVERGING VOICES - A MEMORIAL FOR VICTIMS AND SUVIVORS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE - CANBERRA

A proposal for the National Design competition for the Memorial for Victims and Survivors of institutional child sexual abuse to be located in Canberra. The competition attracted 35 entries across Australia and our proposal was one of 3 finalists and awarded a commendation.

"Converging Voices" explored symbolism and tangibility and was ultimately a product of survivor consultation and collaboration.

For survivors, this memorial is a healing device - A place where people can gather together, share their contribution and listen to others. In doing so survivors can gain emotional strength by understanding that they are not alone.

For the public, the memorial is an educational device - A place where one comes to experience the survivor contributions and in doing so, understand the scale and impact of the issue embedding a sense of social responsibility.

Each individual fin represents the voice of a survivor, as they emerge from the ground they converge together to a unified form becoming denser, higher, louder.
